When my grandfather was around 16 years old, he visited his close friend in Thunder Beach for the first time — a friend who would later become his brother-in-law. He immediately fell in love with the area, marking the beginning of a lifelong connection to the shores of Georgian Bay.
A few years later, he and my grandmother were married, and within four years they had four young children, with a fifth arriving not long after. As their family grew, Thunder Beach became their permanent summer destination. It all began with a little cottage on East Beach — one without a shower or bath, making the lake their makeshift tub.
My grandparents’ deep affection for Thunder Beach has been passed down through generations: from my grandparents to my parents, my aunts and uncles, and now to my cousins, my brother, and me. Today, that same love is being shared with the newest generation — including our flower girl.
In 1995, my parents were married at our family cottage in Thunder Beach. Their wedding tent was set up in almost the exact spot where ours will stand on September 27th.
Soon after my parents’ wedding, my Oma and Opa chose to purchase a cottage on West Shore. I feel very lucky to have been able to spend so many summers here, surrounded by all of my family (and lots of TB friends too <3).
Thankfully, Alex has come to love this special place just as much as I do. We are delighted to welcome you to Thunder Beach — our favourite place in the world. We cannot wait to celebrate with each of you.
Love,
Emily & Alex
